Voice Work
Isla Fisher has provided the voice to two characters in animated movies. She was scheduled to appear in
The Simpsons Movie (2007). In early 2007, she said: "I really can't say what I play. They make you sign these terrifying confidentiality agreements. Six pages of it. I was nervous. I think I'm allowed to say I'm in it. Maybe I'm not even allowed to say that. Oh my gosh." Unfortunately Isla's appearance was cut from the final product and we still do not know what kind of a character she was supposed to voice.
Isla gave her voice to a character in
Horton Hears a Who! in 2008. She was heard alongside such Hollywood heavyweights as Jim Carrey, Steve Carell and
Groupies co-writer and co-star Amy Poehler. Be sure to check out the
official movie site to learn more about
Horton Hears a Who!.
Next, Isla will lend her voice to Gore Verbinski’s toon adventure
Rango (2011) as the female voice lead. The star will play alongside Johnny Depp and Abigail Breslin, who have already boarded the Paramount Pictures project. Alfred Molina, Ray Winstone, Harry Dean Stanton and Ned Beatty round out the voice cast.
Fisher revealed that the entire film will be filmed in a pretty unusual manner. The actors will film their performances, but rather than serving as the basis for motion capture, they’ll merely serve as aide to the animators capturing their movements and facial expressions. It’s something more elaborate than the usual camera-in-a-sound-booth approach that has been used for decades — and really, might be some combination of motion capture and animation. Earlier, Verbinski described it as cutting-edge animation techniques that “will allow us to capture and translate every aspect of Johnny’s performance, using it to drive the computer-generated character in a way that has yet to be seen in an animated feature.” It’s one to watch out for — and we’ll find out what they’re talking about sometime in 2011, when
Rango is set to be released.
