Sacha Baron Cohen’s wife admits it’s not a normal life

The wife of Sacha Baron Cohen says she doesn’t live a “normal” life with The Dictator actor.

Actress Isla Fisher married him in 2010 and although she admits “it’s not a normal life to lead,” she does love it.

Fisher says: “Obviously it’s not pleasant to say to your husband – instead of ‘Did you pick up the dry cleaning?’ or ‘Did you pick up someone from a play date?’ – ‘Oh wow are we getting sued? Has anyone put a death threat on us?’”

The couple have two young daughters and in 2009 it was reported that Baron Cohen had received death threats due to controversy over his gay fashionista character Bruno.

With that in mind, and being the person closest to him, does Isla Fisher ever feel she can censor the words that come out of Sacha Baron Cohen’s creations?

“Oh, of course,” Fisher reveals. “There’s a lot of, ‘Oh my gosh, no you cannot say that! We’re friends with that person, blah, blah, blah, no!’”

She still feels that’s just a natural aspect to their relationship.

“I think all married couples tend to run things by each other in every capacity and we’re not different to them.”

If you were to describe Baron Cohen’s latest comic incarnation as a fragrance, it may be fair to say the Dictator, Admiral General Aladeen, reeks of Saddam Hussein, with undertones of Colonel Gaddafi and a top note of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.

One bonus for Fisher on this project though was that she did get her husband back at the end of a day’s filming.

“The good news is the beard came off in the evening,” she smiles remembering. “So I did not have to look at the beard, unlike the Borat handlebar moustache which I was saddled with for months and months.”

Fisher doesn’t think there is any one scene that will mightily offend the masses in The Dictator movie, but has she ever had any cringing moments watching Baron Cohen’s films with, say her in-laws or parents?

“No, luckily no one ever really says anything, what they really think,” she admits before laughing off the thought.

As you’d expect, Fisher wholeheartedly supports Baron Cohen’s film choices and finds his latest work the most appealing.

“I love it (The Dictator). It’s the funniest movie he’s made, I think by a long way, and it’s also really sweet. There’s a love story and I like to see him, like in Hugo, showing that side of him, creatively it’s great.”

The Dictator is released in the UK on 16 May.

Parker Posey will receive the Excellence In Acting Award while the Faith Hubley Career Achievement Award will go to director Kirby Dick.

The East Coast premiere of Leslye Headland’s comedy Bachelorette starring Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher and Lizzy Caplan and Tom O’Brien’s Fairhaven bookend the festival, which closes on Jun 17.

The Friday Spotlight Film is Gayby directed by Jonathan Lisecki and the Saturday Spotlight Selection is Jeffrey Schwarz’ Vito.

Sacha Baron Cohen has apologised to Ryan Seacrest for the ash-spilling prank he pulled on the TV presenter at the Oscars in February (12).

The funnyman dressed as the title character from his new film The DICtator to walk the red carpet at the Hollywood awards show, and tipped what he claimed to be late North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il’s remains all over the American Idol host in a stunt to promote the movie.

However, backstage at this weekend’s (05-06May12) Saturday Night Live show, Cohen made amends with Seacrest – and the actor’s wife Isla Fisher also apologised for her husband’s antics.

Speaking on his radio show on Monday (07May12), Seacrest revealed, “I saw Isla Fisher and I said hi, and she said these words, and then it dawned on me. She said, ‘I apologise for my husband.’ And I said, ‘Oh, yes, yes, gotcha, thank you, thank you very much for saying that’… I didn’t realise her husband, The DICtator, Sacha Baron Cohen, was doing a walk-on cameo (on the show).

“He comes off stage, comes over to me, breaks character and says sorry about the Oscars, it wasn’t personal. (He was) very very apologetic and genuine and kind and sweet.”

Cohen also told Seacrest he wasn’t the original target for the prank.

Seacrest adds, “He started telling me how it went down. Originally he said that they were going to spill whatever it was in that urn on George Clooney. Someone decided that wasn’t a great idea because he was up for a lot of nominations, it was a big night that night. Then they somehow spun the wheel of tragedy and landed on my name.”

I’m told that Jessica Chastain is back in the mix to play a starring role opposite Robert Downey Jr in Iron Man 3. The role is a sexy scientist every bit as smart as Tony Stark. Chastain, who last year starred in The Tree of Life, The Help, Take Shelter and The Debt, was originally offered the role but it looked like she was going to be preoccupied making a movie with Joel Edgerton and Samantha Morton. I think that movie was The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby. She also had scheduling issues involving the Kathryn Bigelow-directed Sony Pictures film about the hunt for Osama Bin Laden.

Marvel then began lining up meetings with actresses like Diane Kruger, Gemma Arterton and Isla Fisher. But all that has changed as Chastain’s movie has been pushed, the Bin Laden scheduling was worked out, and it looks like she’s going to get the role after all. She will join Downey, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and potentially Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley in the third installment of the Iron Man trilogy, this one directed by Shane Black. Chastain is repped by CAA and Mosaic.

Sneak peek: ‘Now You See Me’

Greed has a new, magical enemy: the Four Horsemen.

Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher and Dave Franco star as an all-illusionist supergroup using their powers to steal from the rich and give to the poor in the action film Now You See Me (out Jan. 18).

“They are modern-day Robin Hoods,” says director Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk).

Eisenberg, the group’s leader, plays a sleight-of-hand specialist, Harrelson is a hypnotist/mentalist, Franco is a pickpocket/generalist and Fisher stars as the world’s best-looking escapologist.

She is recruited to the group after showing off her skills with an elaborate stage escape from chains and a water tank.

“So many things can go wrong on something like this,” says Fisher, 36. “And I was doing the scene in high heels.”

Her co-stars have learned the skills of their characters’ professions for the just-completed shoot, which took them to locations in New Orleans, New York, Las Vegas and Paris. Franco, for example, mastered the art of card-throwing. “He takes a regular playing card and slings it with such force that he can cut a banana in half,” Leterrier says.

Harrelson trained under Irish hypnotist Keith Barry and tried to mesmerize cast members including Mark Ruffalo, who plays an FBI agent on the Four Horsemen’s trail.

“Woody tries to hypnotize everyone,” Leterrier says during a break in filming. “Mark actually pretended it worked.”

When you think F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jay-Z totally comes to mind, right? We didn’t think so. But that’s just one of the things that makes Baz Lurhmann an interesting director. When MTV News caught up with Isla Fischer on the set of “Now You See Me,” she told us working on the film was an “incredible luxury” and shared insight into the unique way Lurhmann helped the actors feel comfortable on set.

“I had a great time. I loved it,” the Scottish actress told us about her “Gatsby” experience. “It was an incredible luxury. We did a play workshop that was three weeks long. Before we even started rehearsals we were immersed entirely in [the 1920's]. It was just the best experience ever.”

Literature fans were thrilled when it was announced another film adaptation of Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” was in the works. Further, they became overjoyed with the news that Leonard DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan and Fischer were among the talented actors cast. And according to the Scottish actress, the stars of the film will not disappoint as Lurhmann’s direction helped ease the actors’ nerves.

“On my first day he had Jay-Z pumped up full and we did the entire scene with, you know, Jay-Z in our ear on full blast while acting and it was just so liberating,” Fischer said. “He really understands actors and how self-conscious we feel at times, and how exposed we are and how we never know where anything lands. Just the complexity of being vulnerable every minute when you’re acting and he just makes you feel so safe.”

We imagine being in the extremely capable hands of the man behind “Romeo + Juliet,” “Australia” and “Moulin Rouge” would make you feel very safe.
