New York, NY, February 7, 2012 – The Weinstein Company (TWC) announced today that its new label, Radius-TWC, has acquired from Strategic Motion Ventures the North American distribution rights to the comedy BACHELORETTE, the debut feature from writer/director Leslye Headland. Adapted by Headland from her acclaimed stage play of the same name, BACHELORETTE had its world premiere in the 2012 Sundance Film Festival Premieres section. The film is the first to be acquired in the open marketplace by Radius-TWC, which was created in fall 2011 to bring new films and other specialty entertainment to audiences simultaneously across multiple platforms. The announcement was made by Radius-TWC Co-Presidents Tom Quinn and Jason Janego.

A raucous comedy about a group of friends who bring decidedly mixed feelings to the task of planning a wedding, BACHELORETTE stars Kirsten Dunst (MELANCHOLIA), Isla Fisher (CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC), Lizzy Caplan (“New Girl”), James Marsden (ENCHANTED), Kyle Bornheimer (SHE’S OUT OF MY LEAGUE), Rebel Wilson (BRIDESMAIDS) and Adam Scott (OUR IDIOT BROTHER). The producers are Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum for Gary Sanchez Productions; and Brice Dal Farra, Claude Dal Farra and Lauren Munsch for BCDF Pictures. The executive producers are Gary Sanchez Productions’ Chris Henchy and BCDF Pictures’ Paul Prokop. The announcement was made by Radius-TWC Co-Presidents Tom Quinn and Jason Janego.

Commented Quinn and Janego, “Leslye has crafted a raging, stiletto-sharp comedy populated with an indelible cast of real characters. BACHELORETTE boldly goes to places BRIDESMAIDS and HANGOVER dare not. This is destined to be one of the most talked about films of the year and we can’t think of a more fitting film for our new label.”

Bachelorette has reportedly been bought by IFC studio at Sundance. Hopefully we’ll get a release date soon.

And we have another review of the film:

BACHELORETTE Review

Not all girls are sugar and spice everything nice. Some are bitter and mean and sometimes that behavior can be downright hilarious. For its first two-thirds, Bachelorette is unapologetic in how ugly, filthy, dark, and angry it’s willing to be for the sake of a laugh. The three main characters are sad and despicable, and writer-director Leslye Headland has no reservations about trying to justify her characters behavior until the last act. Then the movie falls into a sappy place where the humor drains away and we’re asked to root characters who were hilarious but completely beyond redemption.

Regan (Kirsten Dunst), Gena (Lizzy Caplan), and Katie (Isla Fisher) are surprised and seriously annoyed when their fat friend Becky (Rebel Wilson) becomes the first of their group to get married. When they’re not busy being total jerks, the three bridesmaids are being petty about their own baggage. Regan expected to be married first, Gena is holding a grudge against her high-school boyfriend Clyde (Adam Scott), and Katie is realizing that she may be too stupid to live. The night before the wedding, the drunk and coked-up gals, in an act of ultimate bitchiness, try to fit into Becky’s massive wedding dress and end up ripping it. The three then go on a mad dash to try and fix the dress, which leads them on various misadventures.

As well as the first clip, the Sundance Film Festival has also given us the first poster for Bachelorette! The movie’s web team posted it on their official Facebook page to coincide with the premiere in Sundance. It’s a suitably fun and rowdy looking poster and shows the four main girls of the film.

Tell us what you think of the poster by posting a comment!

The premiere for Bachelorette was held on Monday at the Sundance Film Festival, but I cannot find any pictures or mention of Isla being there! I don’t know why … has anyone heard anything? Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan, James Marsden and all the rest of the cast plus the director were in attendance, and apparently the screening was completely sold out, which is good! Reviews for the film have started to come in since the screening, and it’s good/mixed so far. Further down this post are some of those reviews, plus a few links to videos of the other cast at the premiere.

And don’t forget to check out the previous few posts for some fantastic and funny new interviews from Sundance.

Premiering tonight (Jan 23rd) at the Sundance Film Festival, Bachelorette may sound like a combo of Bridesmaids and a certain ABC reality TV show, but after talking with the film’s cast — including Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, and Lizzy Caplan — as well as writer-director Leslye Headland, it’s clear the film is its own unique animal. Along with a discussion of how these female friends, who get together for a wild, drug-fueled pre-wedding party, use their powers for evil, we also learn about Dunst’s unusual choice for a sushi restaurant, and how the male characters were, essentially, “sex objects.” Check out our interview below:
